Abessinier - Statue of Johannes C. Bjerg, stands by Den Spanske Trappe in Kolding

Abessinier (The Abyssinian)

The Abyssinian is one of Johannes C. Bjerg's most outstanding works and is influenced by the artists he met during his stay in Paris 1911-1914. Today the sculpture is part of the grounds surrounding The Spanish Steps in front of the palace garden of Koldinghus.

The Abyssinian is a very graceful figure. The boy has long slender limbs and is slightly styled, which is most noticeable on the eyes and hair. He is making an opening gesture with his hands, but otherwise appears as a closed and well-balanced figure.
